Garry Black Photography
Ottawa Fall Photography Workshop
September 29 - October 13, 2010
Join acclaimed photographer Garry Black on this photographic workshop in and around the Ottawa area during the peak of the autumn colours.  The workshop will consist of two consecutive weekends of intense photography and three evening classroom sessions with lectures, discussions and critiques.

This workshop is intended to emphasize the expansion of your vision - both creatively and technically. Learn how to create inspiring images of urban landscapes, architecture, and nature.

Not only will you learn techniques and tips to improve your images, but also receive advice on digital post processing. Workshop topics will cover the aesthetics of the art of photography as they relate to composition and design elements, through use of tone, colour, shape, balance and lines. We will also cover technical skills, such as exposure, aperture, shutter speed, metering, lens selection, filters, perspective and navigating the camera controls. Lectures on post production techniques will include digital workflow, RAW processing, image adjustments and image potential. By creatively processing RAW files and enhancing images using Adobe Photoshop, you will be shown how to maximize your photo's impact.

There will be group and individual instruction during the weekend field trips as well as challenging and creative assignments which will be critiqued during the classroom sessions. You'll be at the best locations at the right time of day to stimulate your creativity. You'll also be at some locations where the lighting conditions are less than favourable. This will give you the experience of seeing in a different and new way.

On the field trips you will have the opportunity of shooting with one of Canada's leading nature and travel photographers. Garry will be available at all times to guide and assist you in developing your personal photographic vision.  He will be there to answer any and all of your questions.  Your image making is his priority; his goal will be to teach you how to produce creative and interpretative images that are not merely record shots that say "I was here". At the end of this workshop you will have a greater understanding of the art of photography and have the technical skills in order to capture and create astonishing images.

This workshop is open to photographers of all experience levels, however, you should be familiar with your camera. Bring whatever equipment you use including a tripod. There will be a maximum of eight participants in this workshop.

Classroom sessions will be held in Garry Black's studio at his residence in Orleans on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 till 10:00 PM. beginning September 29th , 2010. Four (Five*) day-long field trips will be held on the two weekends between the classroom sessions. The dates for the field trips are October 2, 3 and 9, 10, 11. Classroom sessions are held on September 29, October 6 and 13th. (*Because the 2nd weekend falls on the Thanksgiving weekend an extra field trip day has been added. If you can attend all 3 days on that weekend that's great. Thanksgiving weekend happens to be the dates that the fall colours peak in Ottawa.)
