Hi Everyone!
For some of you who haven't heard from me in a while, you may have thought I've fallen off the edge of the earth. Well I didn't, I've just been pre-occupied with some medical problems that my mother has had. She is now recovering from an Carotid Endaretrectomy operation and appears to be on the road to recovery.
First of all, I added a couple of pages to the Southern Africa Workshop Website http://www.garryblack.com/afwk03.htm
ARTICLES ADDED Camera Equipment To Bring Instructional Tips - Wildflowers, I'm still working on the other 3 for this section. Accommodation Information - I've just started this page, but I posted it anyways.
We were unable to find a roommate for Bill Young, so we've capped the tour to 10 people (including Val and myself).
Baggage Weight Allowance - As some of you know Kent has been working on getting us an increased weight allowance, it seems like forever! He has gotten us an increase for the Botswana portion but has run into problems with the Namibia portion. He was to have met with on of the principal owners of Wilderness Safaris, (the company that owns most of the lodges that we will be staying at and that will be moving us around Africa) this weekend. Hopefully he was successful. If you look at the camera equipment list of the items that I will be bringing, you may be interested to know that the total weight of everything is 30lbs. So one way or another I'm going to make sure that we get an increased weight allowance.
Jim Treat forwarded an website page http://www.gadgetguru.com/Beginner's%20Guide%20To%20Digital%20Photography.htm that is "The Beginner's Guide to Digital Photography". If you ever wondered what its all about, this is a good Primer. If you are writing to Jim please note that he has a new e-mail address treats@ca.astound.net
Ray Jackson forwarded an article about X-Rays and hand checks for carry on luggage. I'll post it on the web site.
Since the
trip is in US dollars, it has become less expensive for everyone (except
for Jim - Sorry) as the exchange rate with the Canadian dollar has
gone in our favour.
Medical Shots - You should see your family Doctor soon about getting your medical shots for the trip. Val and I got all of our shots, all done right in the Doctor's office. We had to get ours done now as we are leaving in a months time for our 3 month trip to the Mid-Atlantic and South-East States.
If you have to contact us while we're on the road, it would be best to call our cell phone 613-791-8110, it has an answering machine if the phone is turned off or if we are in an area without service. You could also try e-mailing me, but I won't have internet access very often.
That's all that I can think of for now; I'll be working on more updates for the web site in the coming days and will let you know when they've been posted. As always if you have any questions please contact me.
