Question:

Garry-  Your web site looks great.  I have a quick question for you.... My wife bought a few  "Shoe box" containers and began to take the pictures out of their "developing pouches" and place them in the shoeboxes.  I stopped her, thinking that the shoebox may not be providing as good a protection as he original pouch.  I am concerned about oxidization over a long period of time. Am I thinking right? What are your recommendations for storing large volume of pictures?

Thanks.

Answer:

If you want the best archival boxes and information on storage, go to this
web site. http://www.lightimpressionsdirect.com/servlet/OnlineShopping

I store my slides in archival boxes, but we store our snapshot negatives in
the original pouches. If I were concerned about the archival life of the
negatives, I'd also store them in special boxes. I might even scan them and
put them on a couple of CD's (one as a backup). Rewrite the CD's every 10 -
15 years, back to CD's or whatever the technology is then. Apparently CD's
are not that archival.

Hope this helps you.
