IMPROVING PICTURE QUALITY

ORIGINAL PHOTO

FINAL PHOTO

In the snap shot of Val in Santorini, Greece, the picture seemed quite flat, almost to the point that it appeared as though she was standing in front of a painted backdrop of the scene. The film did not record the perfect blue sky, in general the picture just didn't live up to the way we remembered the scene looking. The highlights are also "burned" out. I took this shot using her Pentax point and shoot camera and 100 ISO negative print film.

To improve this picture the first step was to go the IMAGE > ADJUST > LEVELS box, where I adjusted the sliders. Move the sliders in to where you see the first spikes this greatly improved the tonal range of the picture.

To improve the sky and background mountain area I choose IMAGE > ADJUST > SELECTIVE COLOR, for both the CYANS and BLUES, I increased the cyan, magenta and black while decreasing the yellow settings.

To improve the rest of the picture I choose IMAGE > ADJUST > SELECTIVE COLOR, for both the REDS and YELLOWS, I decreased the cyan while increasing the magenta, yellow and black settings.

That was it! The whole process took less than 3 minutes to complete.
