Fall Photography Workshop |
September 29 - October 6, 2001 |
The White Mountains are surrounded by a mixed forest of coniferous and deciduous hardwoods that come alive with colours every fall. People from all over the world come to this area to see the rare mix of brilliant fall colour against the majestic green of evergreen stands. This area has some of the most beautiful scenery in the East; mountains, rivers, marshland, lakes and numerous picturesque streams and waterfalls. There is much to discover, and to capture with your camera.
Usually late September and early October is the best time for fall colour in this region of New Hampshire. I have chosen the Jefferson area to be our base due to its central location. We can travel in different directions following the best colour. This area has an abundance of picture-taking opportunities therefore I am planning to be shooting from sunrise till sunset. We won't be locked into a schedule which will allow us the spontaneity to stop when and where we decide.
We won't try to cover New England from corner to corner, you couldn't even begin to scratch the surface in a single season let alone a week. Instead we will concentrate on areas which are within easy driving distance. These are some of the many interesting sites that we could visit:
WORKSHOP DETAILS
This week-long workshop will run from September 29 to October 6, 2001. You arrive on Saturday afternoon and depart the following Saturday morning. The tuition cost of the one-week workshop is $600.00 (CDN) = $390.00 (US). Participants are responsible for lodging, meals, film processing and transportation. Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 10 persons. I purposely keep the group relatively small so that I can attend to each person's needs as much as possible.
Though we will be having a few slide shows and some lectures, this workshop will focus on individual instruction. There is nothing that can compare to one-on-one instruction "in the field" under a variety of situations. Prior to the workshop I will be setting up a web site for the participants with technical information, creative approaches and field notes.
We will be driving quite extensively around the area to our photographic sites, therefore cars will be necessary. Due to the logistics of travelling as a group, we will arrange car pools; in past workshops this has not been a problem.
ACCOMMODATION
The home base for our autumn workshop is The Lantern Resort Motel and Campground, in Jefferson, New Hampshire. A block of rooms has been pre-reserved for us at the rate of $59.00 (US) per night (single or double occupancy) plus tax. The Campground at the resort is also available for those who wish to live out of their motorhome, travel trailer or tent. There are a few other lodging choices around the area if you prefer to stay elsewhere. Participants are responsible for making their own room reservations. We will provide more information upon workshop registration.
ENROLLMENT
Since applications are accepted on a first-come, first served basis, a deposit of $250.00 payable to Garry Black is required to reserve your space. The balance is due 45 days prior to the start of the workshop. If you cancel prior to the 45 days, your deposit, less a $50.00 cancellation fee, will be refunded. If you cancel after that time, the deposit (less cancellation fee) will be refunded only if another applicant fills the space. Every effort will be made to fill reservations vacated from the waiting list.
You are welcome to bring a non-photographing friend, they will enjoy the same hospitality and adventure, but without photographic instruction.
After receipt of your completed registration form, you will receive information with travel and destination information, as well as suggestions as to what to bring in the way of photographic equipment and clothing. We will also provide a list of the participants to assist in possible joint travel plans or sharing accommodation.
