PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND WORKSHOP |
Accommodation and Travel Information |
|
If you're driving to the workshop, there are only 2 possible ways to get onto the island. Either by the ferry from Nova Scotia or the Confederation Bridge from New Brunswick. You can arrive by ferry and leave by the bridge, or arrive by bridge and leave by the ferry. The cost is the same no matter which way you take and you only pay when you leave the Island. Since most people take the bridge, I'll give the directions to the hotel from the bridge. As soon as you've crossed over the bridge there is a large tourist information center, it's a good place to stop if you want some brochures or to do some souvenir shopping. Then, continue north on Hwy. 1 then along Hwy. 1A to the junction of Hwy. 225. Head east on Hwy. 225 until the junction of Hwy. 13. Turn left (north) onto Hwy. 13, go through Hunter River and New Glasgow. The Mayfield Quality Inn is on the right hand side of Hwy. 13 at the corner of the Rustico Line Road. I have confirmed everyone's reservation with the Inn, check in is on Sunday June 16th after 1:00pm. If you wish to arrive a day or 2 earlier or stay after the workshop has finished, you must make these arrangements yourself directly with the Inn. All of our meals will be at the Inn. Coffee will be available before we head out for our sunrise shoots. Supper will be early 5:00 - 5:30 so we can get back out while the light is still good. For your information sunset is around 9:10 p.m. and sunrise is at 5:20 a.m.
CLOTHES The weather on Prince Edward Island at this time of year is usually cool in the mornings and evenings and warm during the day. It's a Maritime climate so the weather can be extremely unpredictable. We've placed our order for good weather, but you never know. Be prepared for all kinds of weather. It could get warm enough to wear shorts (one year it was not only warm it was HOT everyday), but normally jeans and a shirt are the best for this time of year. It is well advised to bring enough clothes to dress in layers. They should be comfortable and durable. The dress code is casual. Formal clothes are not required at any time. Pack up some sturdy shoes with non-slip soles, warm socks, gloves for the "chilly" sunrises, a hat to ward off the sun and rain, sun glasses, and a jacket or anorak with a hood. It is also important to bring some sun block and insect repellent. |
